Boob job’s just 99p

WOMEN are going DIY in the wake of the breast implant crisis thanks to a 99p padded bra.

99p Stores says sales of its padded bras have surged three-fold at its Swindon store in Havelock Square over the last three weeks compared to the same period last year.

And the branch has also seen 99p breast enhancement and anti-wrinkle cream products surge 350 per cent as well.

Boss of the chain Hussein Lalani says all this could indicate the public is losing confidence in cosmetic surgery after it was revealed the French-made PIP breast implants contained industrial silicone rather than medical-grade fillers and that they may be more prone to rupture and leakage.

“We have had such products on shelves for more than three years and they have always been a very popular seller,” said Hussein.

“But in the last two weeks sales have soared.

“It may be a subconscious thing. For example women may be thinking that any future plans of implants should go on hold or postponed in view of the crisis and that in the meantime they want practical non-surgery profile boosts.

“Britons’ thirst for value has become unquenchable with the value genie now well and truly out of the bottle.

“When times get better demanding value will have become an integral part of the daily shopping habit of Britons’. That will be one of the better things, if not the only thing, to have come out of this recession.”

However, when the Adver took to the streets yesterday, women weren’t so enthusiastic about the bargain bras.

Claire Davies and friend Natalia Wardrobe, 29, from Lyneham, weren’t overly impressed.

Claire said: “It would do as a bra to just kick around in at home but it’s not really anything special.

“I think it needs to be glammed up a bit. And the breast enhancers look a bit like broad beans.”

Joan Williams, 66, from Stratton, said: “It doesn’t look particularly good quality. I’m not sure how long it would last but it is nice to have the cheap option there, especially if you are a bit strapped for cash.

“I’m not surprised they are selling so well, especially these days when everyone is struggling.”
